Tejano Roots 1946-66

0 - Default Title
Description
In 1990, Arhoolie Productions purchased Ideal Records masters. The catalog, spanning a 25 year period from 1946 to 1970, included recordings by women who helped shape the beginnings of Tejano (Mexican-American) music in the southwestern United States. Originally, female performers in Mexican entertainment were allotted roles only in less serious entertainment (vaudeville, dancers, chorus girls, and zarzuela comediennes). The liner notes include a brief history of development of Tejano music, short biographies of each artist/group, and Spanish song lyrics and English translations.
