They will certainly be a wonderful reminder of the days of our youth. Dame Esther Rantzen Esther Rantzens vision to create a ChildLine for older people is a simple concept a free 24 hour helpline, available every day and night of the year, where you can ask about services in your area, talk in confidence, get some friendly advice or quite simply have a chat. And for people who would appreciate a regular call from the same person every week there are now more than one thousand volunteer Silver Line Friends who share the belief that a simple connection with another human being can be life-changing. As one caller told his Silver Line friend when I get off the phone, I feel like I belong to the human race. The Silver Line has received more than 350,000 calls since its national launch in November 2013. So this simple idea is already having a transformational effect on the lives of thousands of older people and a huge, previously unmet need has been revealed. There is no other 24/7 helpline, which is free and confidential, for older people to chat to someone who really cares how they are feeling, with the aim of alleviating loneliness.
