Description
If the late Alexis Korner was the Godfather of the British blues movement, John Mayall must surely be considered its father. Not only is he still performing after a career spanning five decades, during that lengthy career he mentored many other British blues icons including Eric Clapton, er Green, John Mc and Mick Taylor amongst others. John's interest in the blues was nurtured at an early age, listening to his father's jazz collection. Leadbelly, Albert Ammons, Pinetop Smith and Eddie Lang were amongst John's early influences and from their music he taught himself to play piano, guitar and harmonica. BOOGIE WOOGIE PIONEERS is a collection of Piano Blues compiled by John which in his words has allowed him "to take a trip down memory lane". The collection is a reflection of John's own musical journey, the works are presented in chronological order and are from a variety of artists, both well known and some lesser known. It follows the development of the genre from the influential Cow Cow Davenport's "Cow Cow Blues" recorded in 1929 through to the brilliance of Otis Spann recorded in 1960. John Mayall has written the liner notes to this collection, he describes each of his chosen tracks and gives reasons for his choice. This is a unique collection that will appeal to blues fans and John Mayall fans alike.
