Chant a Prayer

0 - Default Title
Description
This compilation from Atlanta-based Jamdown Records takes its title from Rasta firebrand Anthony B's track. But young Anthony's hardcore culture chat--along with other "conscious" offerings from Stanryk (misspelled here as "Stan Rick") and Major Christie in combination with dumpling-cheeked Don Yute (essaying a hardcore, Capleton-inspired, somewhat unconvincing style)--rest uneasily amongst the CD's field of lover's rock crooners. Though the set suffers from a lack of integration and flow, it does give listeners the opportunity to hear from artists other than the usual reggae suspects found in these collections. Veteran Frankie Paul, missing in action for a while, turns up in fine form with "Call Me." Spanner Banner, another original and mysteriously neglected stylist, soars in "Go for the Good Times," as does his little brother, Richie Spice, putting his own reggae twist on "Slang a Slang." --Elena Oumano
