BBC Jazz Awards 2005

0 - Default Title
Description
The BBC Jazz Awards celebrates its 5th anniversary this year, and to mark this occasion Specific Jazz is releasing the first compilation to be based around these prestigious awards, building upon the success of albums previously released around the BBC's Folk and World Music Awards. This year's list of nominees (and the tracklist for this album) includes many artists who have been attracting a considerable amount of media attention over the last 12 months. CD1 features the cream of the mainstream, with vocalists to the fore and contributions from Jamie lum, Gwyneth Herbert, Clare Teal and Tina May. There are also instrumental cuts from rising stars such as Tony Kofi and stalwarts of the scene such as Jim Mullen and er King. CD2 showcases the rising stars of the contemporary jazz arena, kicking off with current press darlings Acoustic Ladyland and also featuring Abram Wilson, the F-IRE Collective's Ingrid Laubrock, Polar Bear, the world music-influenced music of Gilad Atzmon and an exclusive performance to this CD by Jason Yarde. With the awards taking place on July 2nd, and being broadast during that week, a raft of advertising and big interest expected in the media, this is without a doubt one of the highest profile jazz releases of 2005.
