With a desire to know something of our early ancestors, we began a search for records and became very much interested in the work, but found that much valuable history had been lost, and we realized that more would share the same fate without some one gathered it together and put it into form for security and reference. Thus we were led to compile and publish the History and Genealogy, that others might have the benefit of our researches. In preparing a work like this it is not an easy task to find all one could wish that would be of interest to the descendants, for records have not been fully kept. The records of the events of their time and lives have been taken from town records, genealogies, manuscripts, newspapers, letters, deeds, dates from headstones. We real ize that the work is not as complete as we might wish, some moving to places unknown to us and unable to be found by the means we have put forth. The records of each branch of the family have been brought down to the date of this work, or until death or inability to find further records of them.
