'Titanic' (1997) is James Cameron's epic account of the world's most famous maritime disaster, the most commercially successful film ever made, and swept the board at the 1997 Oscar ceremony. The Titanic, the most prestigious liner ever to sail the seas, sets off on its maiden voyage in April, 1912. Amongst the passengers are Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet) and her fiancé Cal Hockley (Billy Zane), the heir of a Pittsburgh steel magnate. Rose is less than thrilled at the prospect of spending the rest of her life with Hockley, and contemplates throwing herself off the stern of the ship, only to be persuaded otherwise by fellow passenger, barrowboy Jack Dawson (DiCaprio). Despite coming from opposite ends of the social scale, the couple soon fall in love, but will their relationship be cut tragically short when the boat crashes into an iceberg? Based on the novel by Alexandre Dumas, 'The Man in the Iron Mask' (1998) is set in 1662 Paris, and the three Musketeers have now retired. Aramis (Jeremy Irons) is a priest, charged alongside the corrupt King Louis (DiCaprio) with finding and eliminating the leader of the Jesuits in France. He reunites with Porthos (Gerard Depardieu) and Athos (John Malkovich), when they discover that Louis is keeping his twin, Phillipe, imprisoned in an iron mask. Athos wants revenge for the death of his son, Raoul, after Louis recalled him to the front, while Aramis reveals that he is himself the Jesuit leader. However, their old ally, D'Artagnan (Gabriel Byrne), now Louis' personal bodyguard, refuses to join them. 'Romeo and Juliet' (1996) sees Shakespeare's play transposed to the futuristic urban backdrop of Verona Beach, California. The Montague and Capulet families are embroiled in a long-running feud. When Romeo (DiCaprio), a Montague, attends a Capulet ball in disguise, he falls in love with the beautiful Juliet (Claire Danes).
