Description
‘I can no longer live with the ghosts,’ he murmured as he locked the gates for the last time. The Sleeping Garden tells the true story of The Lost Gardens of Heligan, how a beautiful Cornish garden fell into neglect and silence following the outbreak of the Great War and how, in 1990, it was rediscovered and eventually brought back to vibrant and abundant life. The story has been lovingly and imaginatively created by author and illustrator Sarah Hewitt who tells a very human story at the heart of a book filled with all the beauty and colour of Heligan then and now.
The Lost Gardens of Heligan is a multi-award-winning garden attraction, in 2018 it won the Best UK Leisure Attraction by the British Travel Awards, awarded gold at the Cornwall Tourism Awards (Large itor Attraction), crowned BBC Countryfile Magazine’s ‘Garden of the Year’, and voted ‘Number 1 Garden in the South West’ by Garden News Magazine. In 2020 the Garden is celebrating 30-years since its discovery and reawakening with many special events taking place throughout the year.
