Nomie is seven and three-quarters. She is endlessly inquisitive and, like many children of her generation, has parents who are overextended and spend too much time working. Fortunately there's the upstairs neighbour, the wonderful Madame Lumbago, who loves Nomie like a grandmother and has a cat, a canary and, most important of all, time. The first anniversary of the death of Madame Lumbago's husband, Emile, is coming up, and the thought of the old man reminds Nomie of a story he liked to tell: the story of a treasure hidden somewhere in the apartment. Nomie sets out to find the treasure. During her adventures, the little girl makes some peculiar discoveries about the adult world...
