Record producer Marty Starr (Rik Mayall) is heavily in debt to loan shark Mr Rathbone (Danny Aiello). After his car is blown up and his house repossessed, Marty hits upon a plan. His sole remaining client, fading pop star Marla Dorland (Jane Horrocks), is showing signs of leaving Marty's label, Purple Starr Records. Inspired by Elvis, Hendrix and Kurt Cobain, Marty decides to revive Marla's career. By killing her off.
