Opkomst en ondergang van Fokke & Sukke 1 - Prelude Tekenaar vertelt in stripvorm hoe de vriendschap tussen drie studenten leidt tot de geboorte van het populairste cartoonduo van Nederland. De geboorte van Fokke & Sukke vond eind 1993 plaats toen Reid, Geleijnse & Van Tol door het Amsterdamse Studentenweekblad Propria Cures gevraagd werden een cartoon te verzinnen voor het kerstnummer. In het eerste deel van "Opkomst en ondergang van Fokke & Sukke" getiteld "Prelude", doet Jean-Marc van Tol op eigen wijze uit de doeken hoe de populaiste cartoonreeks van Nederland uit het ei kroop. De verschillende hoofdstukken van de strip worden afgewisseld met nooit eerder gepubliceerde schetsen, tekeningen en fotomateriaal uit het archief van de auteur.
