This interactive, hands-on science lesson engages upper elementary students in exploring food, energy, and nutrition. Designed for students in grades 4-6, the lesson investigates how food provides energy, the role of nutrients in growth and health, and how sugar affects the drinks we consume. Through four engaging activities, students map where food is grown, test foods for stored energy with a calorimeter, examine the functions of nutrients, and build a simple hydrometer to measure sugar in common beverages.
