Bonnard : Le Cannet, une évidence. Bonnard : Le Cannet in the limelight

Ce projet s'attache à mettre en évidence, à travers de nombreux chefs-d'oeuvre, la démarche originale de Bonnard et le lien profond qui l'unit à son environnement. Aussi, le musée Bonnard a choisi de présenter ses collections sous l'angle de la Méditerranée, et du Cannet en particulier, où le peintre est venu s'installer au début des années 1920. Il est bouleversé par la lumière de la région qui met à l'épreuve son sens aigu de l'observation et sa sensibilité. Plus d'une vingtaine de prêts complémentaires, issus de collections particulières, enrichissent un parcours volontairement chronologique et thématique, des premières affiches de Bonnard à l'éblouissement de ses tableaux peints au Cannet.

Le présent catalogue a été recomposé à partir de celui publié dans le cadre du 150^e anniversaire de la naissance de Bonnard, reformulé avec les nouvelles oeuvres présentées. Les textes et notices richement documentés sont signés par Véronique Serrano, conservateur en chef du musée Bonnard.

This project aims - with the aid of a wide selection of Bonnard's masterpieces - to reveal the artist's unique approach and his deep connection with his surroundings. The Musée Bonnard decided to present its collection through the lens of the Mediterranean and especially of Le Cannet, where the painter set up home in the early 1920s. Bonnard was bowled over by the region's light, which tried his heightened sense of observation and his sensitivity to their limits. This exhibition, which has been deliberately organised by date and theme, is enhanced by more than twenty additional loans from private collections, stretching from Bonnard's first posters to the final flowering of his Le Cannet paintings.

This book is based on the catalogue published for the 150^th anniversary of Bonnard's birth, and expanded to include the new works on show. The carefully documented texts and notes were drafted by Véronique Serrano, Head Curator of the Musée Bonnard.
