Alzheimer's and Dementia Disease:

0 - Default Title
Description
Alzheimer's disease and other dementias are progressive brain disorders, mostly affecting older adults. Alzheimer's is the most common type, making up 60-80 per cent of dementia cases. As the global population ages, the number of people with dementia is rising, creating major health and economic challenges. Risk factors include age, family history, and genetics, such as the APOE-¿4 gene. However, many lifestyle-related factors like heart disease, diabetes, smoking, poor diet, lack of exercise, low education, social isolation, and depression can be managed to lower the risk. Since current medications offer limited relief, non-drug approaches play a key role in care. These include memory training, physical activity, healthy eating (like the Mediterranean diet), music and art therapy, good sleep habits, and social engagement. A well-rounded care plan that addresses both medical and emotional needs can help improve life for patients and reduce the burden on families and health systems.
