In 1990, he contributed to the musical score of The Sheltering Sky and the movie received the Award Golden Globes of the Best Original Score.Moreover, Ryuichi Sakamoto obtained a major part in 1983 in Furyo (Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence), a production by Jeremy Thomas. He also composed the original soundtrack to the movie.
