This unique anthology of art songs by Robert Schumann's talented wife, Clara Wieck Schumann, fills a large gap in the catalog of music by women composers. Soprano Lan Rao was born in Guangzhou, China, where she studied dance and vocal art. She studied in Germany with Arleen AugÃr at the Conservatory in Frankfurt and with Reri Grist at the Conservatory in Munich. Besides the German Lied, Lan Rao also devotes herself to Chinese compositions. Pianist Micaela Gelius was a regular accompanist in the singing classes of Brigitte Fassbaender and Reri Grist, and in master classes led by Hans Hotter, among others. In 1986 she was awarded the Special Mozart Prize in the Third International Song Contest in Vienna.
