Study on solar still desalination for improving fresh water yield

0 - Default Title
Description
Water is one of the prime sources for the survival of living species on earth. Several methods are employed to get fresh potable drinking water. Solar still is the best method in producing fresh water to their needs. The yield from conventional single slope solar still is normally in the range of 1.5- 2.7 kg/m2. As the yield of these solar still are lower, various methods are incorporated to improve the yield like adding sponges, wick's and fins to increase the surface area of water. And these methods include integrating parabolic trough collector, concentrating collector, and inverted absorber. And these methods yield more than the conventional solar still. On the economic aspect these methods are unaffordable for humans. Hence, a low cost solar still is designed, fabricated and tested for its viability for domestic use and produce higher yield than other methods.
