The delivery of drugs across the skin is gaining wide acceptance among patients and termed as Topical drug delivery. It is a viable administration route for potent, low molecular weight therapeutic agents susceptible to first pass metabolism. Emulgel are a relatively newer class of dosage form created by entrapment of large amounts of aqueous or hydro alcoholic liquid in a network of colloidal solid particles. Emulgel allow dual control of the drug release from the formulation, i.e. emulsion and gel. In recent years, there has been great interest in the use of novel polymers with complex functions as emulsifiers and thickeners because the gelling capacity of these compounds allows the formulation of stable emulsions and creams by decreasing surface and interfacial tension and at the same time increasing the viscosity of the aqueous phase. In this book Authors tried to provide topical formulation having advantages of both emulsion and gel providing high bioavailability of the drug.The drug loaded emulgel delivery system can be an effective novel topical formulation for the fast relief from arthritic condition.
