"The Promotion" presents the near future of an alternate reality in which an already depressed company employee's inexplicably strange day makes him question things: His advancement in a career he hates, his faltering perception, his health, and, eventually, why he bothered to get out of bed that morning.
"Things Could Always Be Worse" begins with a typical day in the life of a bohemian urban princess, whose narrow world is about to collapse into a state that anyone would find disconcerting.
"Peregrine" concerns a wanderer, who travels to escape a curse that inevitably draws hostility towards him from every surrounding community he visits. Through unfortunate happenstance, he is eventually forced to journey to a foreboding place, lest he endure yet another possible curse.
