Description
Co-led for this date by the German saxophonist Peter Weniger and bassist Martin Wind, the basis of this group is the regular working trio of American pianist Bill Mays. For the last couple of years Mays, Wind plus drummer Matt Wilson have been touring all over the USA with Weniger making occasional guest appearances. Bill Mays is a both talented solo arist as well as being a skilled accompanist for the likes of Mark Murphy, Frank Sinatra and Sarah Vaughan and he has played with Ron Carter, the Mel Lewis Orchestra, Gerry Mulligan, Art Pepper, Sonny Stitt and Clark Terry. Matt Wilson is a young master drummer who plays regularly in the bands of Dewey Redman and Cecil McBee. Peter Weniger had already established himself as one of the hottest young players on the German jazz scene and Martin Wind has worked with the Brecker Brothers, Lalo Schifrin, Monty Alexander, Toots Thielemans, Mark Murphy, and Mike Stern, among others. After their last tour they decided to document the band's "legacy". For the programme for this recording they chose some of the tunes they had played on the road plus originals by Mays and Wind. The result is great modern mainstream jazz. Personnel: Peter Weniger - (tenor saxophone), Martin Wind - (bass), Bill Mays - (piano), Matt Wilson - (drums)
