Description
This publication has been commissioned by the Society for Vascular Technology and published in collaboration with IPEM as part of a set of national guidelines for the recommended working practice in vascular laboratories. This volume, Part V, covers Upper Limb Arterial and Venous Assessment, and follows on from the Basic Manual, which is in four ring-bound parts, for easy reference, when required, on the vascular laboratory workbench. The four parts are: I Basic physical principles II Extra- and intra cranical arterial assessment III Lower limb arterial assessment, and IV Lower limb venous assessment These four parts are sold as one set, not separately. All parts describe how to undertake each of the tests they cover an in a step by step format, and cover relevant anatomy, physiology and presenting symptoms, equipment required, interpretation of results, pitfalls and other aetiologies. Part V includes chapters on upper limb pressure measurements, continuous wave doppler assessment, stress testing, modified Allen's test, duplex ultrasounf assessment of the upper limb arteries and bypass grafts, upper limb venous duplex assessment for detection of deep venous thrombosis, vein marking prior to bypass and venous access surgery, and asessment of renal dialysis arteriovenous fistula and access grafts. Part VI, published separately, covers visceral vessel assessment. These guidelines from SVT should be essential reading for anyone working in a vascular laboratory, vascular radiologists and vascular nurses as well as manufacturers and suppliers of ultrasound equipment.
