Nel luglio del 1960, a Reggio Emilia, è successa una cosa inaudita, che è la materia principale che forma questo romanzo. Mentre ancora lo stavo scrivendo mio fratello, che ha sei anni meno di me, si è fermato a dormire a casa mia e prima di mettersi a letto ha preso dal tavolo un libro, «Era il luglio del 1960» dello storico inglese Philip Cooke.
