Description
In 1940, during the feast of Saint John the Baptist, the young merchant Ante from Medjugorje saw Jelena of Buna for the first time. He liked the girl immediately. He asked about her family and then went to her father to ask for her hand in marriage. After only six months, on the feast of Saint Stephen, the young couple rode on horseback with the guests up the snow covered mountains to reach Medjugorje. Thus their married life began in the idyllic countryside, until due to the rumblings of war, they had to escape to Sarajevo where I was born on November 9th 1941, the eldest of three children. During the first years of the war we managed to have a few serene moments when my father joined us, when he was not working as a civil servant. One of these moments is reflected in the photo of me as a child between my parents.
