Description

Arde translates as it burns and indeed it does.
It will be very difficult for the members of Migala to forget this passing year. They began with a collaboration for the soundtrack to "Flors", a play by Spanish famous theatre group General Eléctric. Then they went on to see the release of "Así duele un verano" in France (Labels/Virgin) sell over 3000 copies. After that they performed at the latest edition of the Bennicassim festival and finally they handed in two songs for historic label Sub Pop's singles club which are about to be published before the end of the 2000. To wrap up so much commotion they went into seclusion for two long months, commuting between Villalba (their refuge far from the city) and the recording studio, in the gestation of their third album, "Arde" ("it burns" in Spanish). First the much acclaimed "Diciembre 3am" (97) meant a true breath of fresh air to our complacent scene (and that was how it was seen by both the audience and the critics). Then "Así duele un verano" (98) triggered their discovery at a European and USA level resulting in their tour throughout France and their inclusion in Magic! magazine as one of the revelations of 99 as well as the inclusion of 3 songs in a Keyhole Recordings compilation among Tinsel and Greg Weeks. The album was also distributed in the UK, USA, South Korea, Belgium and Holland. Now "Arde", with 14 songs appears as the definitive work of a band that has not allowed itself to be bemused by the enormous expectation it has stirred up. After having opened in its brief history for Smog, The Magnetic Fields, Damon & Naomi, Piano Magic, Kramer, Mark Kozelek (Red House Painters), Ben and Jason and accompanying Will Oldham during his latest Spanish tour we knew Migala were aware of how every artist should live up to his (or their) influences.
