Electric guitarist Pablo Menendez, born in Oakland, CA, but raised and domiciled in Havana, Cuba, for over 40 years has been one of the least known, but most influential figures in contemporary Afro-Cuban jazz. Pablo and his band of over 25 years, Mezcla ( Mix ) have been a powerful presence in the highly competitive Havana club scene for over 25 years. . Staggeringly tight and virtuosic beyond belief, Menendez and Mezcla combine a respect for the traditional Cuban forms danzon, bolero, timba and salsa, with cutting edge funk, electric fusion and form jazz. . Title track I ll See You in Cuba a long forgotten Prohibition-era Irving Berlin tune - swingingly delivered with tongue-in-cheek vocals by Menendez, is becoming surprisingly topical today, with a thaw in US Cuban relations being underway.
