The short, eventful life of the Italian painter and sculptor Amedeo Modigliani embodies the tragic myth of the Bohemian. When he died of tuberculous meningitis and the consequences of his drug use at the age of only thirty-five, he had already attracted some attention with his nude paintings. As a draughtsman of masterly precision and reduction and one of the greatest portraitists of his time, he left us a unique oeuvre.
