Description
'Rumbero Soy' is the electrifying new album from Sierra Maestra that pushes back the boundaries of traditional son and celebrates the band's twenty-five successful years. Recorded in Bordeaux and Havana with new younger members fresh from the Cuban talent factory, the legendary soneros present groundbreaking tracks featuring an innovative sound, new songs and very special guests Ibrahim Ferrer, Omara Portuondo and Marc Ribot. Sierra Maestra were the first group (and remain the best) of the modern era to play in the old-style son line-up: tres, guitar, trumpet, bongo, guiro, maracas and 4-part harmony vocals. They pioneered the revival of this style, presenting it to a new generation and reintroducing it into the Cuban mainstream. 'Rumbero Soy' pulsates with energy and never loses pace. It is another important step in the career of the band and takes their music into the future with a new set of songs and an innovative sound. Personnel: Emilio Jose Ramos Bbatista - (tres, vocals), Oslen Ceballo Bryan - (trumpet), Eduardo Manuel Rico Menendez - (bongos, congas), Carlos Puisseaux Mansfarroll - (guiro, vocals), Alberto Virgilio Valdes Decalo - (maracas, vocals), Luis Bargaza Sosa - (vocals), Jose Antonio 'Maceo' Rodriguez Aguilera - (guitar, vocals), Eduardo Himely Pino - (bass, tumbadora), Alejandro Suarez Galarraga - (clave, vocals, band director) Special Guests: Ibrahim Ferrer - (vocals, tracks 2,3), Omara Portuondo - (vocals, tracks 5,7), Marc Ribot - (guitar, tracks 4,6,8)
