From the beginning of their recording career, los Van Van (the Go Go's) have made it their business to fuse styles and cross lines. They added a strong jazz emphasis to the Afro-Spanish sound of traditional Cuban music. It is this fusion that has led to their popularity outside of Cuba and to a series of foreign record deals.
