Description
Four characters star in the verses of these poems: the woman who sings them, a Bull, a chorus of ancestors, and a flower named Amaryllis. We know little or nothing about this woman, although her voice--at times springlike and unbridled, at times a voice crying for help--remains ever-present. Her song is the song of a need: that of someone who has felt, galloping through the steppes of her body with the boundless forces of longing and passion, the wild dominion of the Bull, and now, subdued and condemned, amidst the ravages of love, can only recount it, explain herself, measure herself once again. Obsessed with Greek myths, she turns to Amaryllis for this purpose.
