Between the Lines: Identity, Place and Power

0 - Default Title
Description
The Waswo X. Waswo Collection of Indian Printmaking represents over seventy-nine Indian artists from diverse geographical regions. Consisting of woodcuts, etchings, lithographs and screen prints, the works in the collection span a time from 1916 to the present. Unlike many surveys of contemporary printmaking, "Between the Lines" approaches its subject matter with an emphasis on imagery and meaning rather than technique. It stands as a completely fresh approach to a much neglected subject. Born in Baghdad in 1978, Lina Vincent Sunish spent her childhood in various Indian cities before settling in Bangalore. She took a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts specializing in Graphic Printmaking from the College of Fine Arts, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, at Bangalore University. Proceeding to take a Post Graduate Degree in Fine Arts with a specialization in Art History from the same institution, Sunish graduated First Rank and with a Gold Medal award in 2001. She was awarded a Junior Research Fellowship and Lectureship and has written numerous features and reviews for various Indian and International magazines, including the publication of a segment of her major research project "Indian Printmaking in the South". She is also a founder member of the printmaking group known as the Trellis Artists Collective. Her most recent projects have included curatorial assistance for "An Artist's Quest: K.K. Hebbar in Retrospective", at the National Gallery of Modern Art, Bangalore, and the curation of "I am Here", an exhibition of video self-portraits by artists from India, the UK, Italy and Bangladesh.
