Il libro presenta, con il solito stile vivace dell'autore, come Gesù ha messo in pratica le Beatitudini, sintesi del suo Vangelo, attraverso i fatti, i discorsi e tutti i riferimenti presenti nel Vangelo - spesso ignorati da una lettura veloce o da una catechesi astratta - che fanno trasparire il Gesù "uomo", capace di manifestare come il Creatore vuole che viviamo la vita che ci dona. Ogni capitolo, eccettuati il primo e l'ultimo, è diviso in quattro parti. La prima analizza come Gesù vive quella beatitudine. La terza stimola un esame di coscienza per rendersi conto che la morale cristiana non è non dire bugie, parolacce, bestemmie ("quando ci vuole", diceva un mio parrocchiano), perdere la pazienza, saltare la messa... (i peccati solitamente confessati), ma comportarsi come Gesù nella vita di ogni giorno. La quarta è una preghiera con la quale si chiede a Gesù la forza di vivere come lui è vissuto.
