Kristen Nicole Powell is a community-rooted nonprofit leader and storyteller with 10+ years building programs, coalitions, and campaigns at the intersection of youth justice, healing, and policy. A survivor of human trafficking who spent her teens in foster care, juvenile detention, and long stretches on the run, she turns lived experience into strategy-designing programs, facilitating healing spaces, and partnering with organizations to center directly impacted youth. While Kristen was in jail, her story influenced protests and helped fuel a growing national push to decriminalize survivors of human trafficking-a reminder that people exploited by violence deserve care, not cages. She later co-founded The Lost & Found Institute, which walks alongside system-impacted young people to break intergenerational cycles of trauma, violence, incarceration, and poverty (LFI is evolving-Kristen continues to build with partners across community, policy, and practice). Her work and perseverance have been recognized with the Light the Way Youth Award (Human Kind Ministries, 2021) and all three levels-club, region, and international-of the Soroptimist Live Your Dream Award. Kristen lives in Oregon with her children. The Pain We Carry is her debut memoir-raw, precise, and unflinching.
