Get your headphones ready as Germany s Kptmichigan once again shatters musical boundaries on his self-titled third full-length, undertaking a diverse and exploratory approach similar in nature to fellow guitarists Thurston Moore and Christian Fennesz combined with a restored faith in rock n roll. The initial plan was to make a modern folk album; however, ideas evolved and the album became more infused with elements of noise, rock and psychedelic music (think Syd Barret), showcasing Kptmichigan s love for guitar and Fender super reverb. He became influenced by the short, high-energy rock n roll songs of his other band, Beautiful New Born Children, as well as old Jamaican ska, reggae & dub, very early folk & bluegrass, and even some African music. He also cites the noise of such artists as Jimi Hendrix, The Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth and My * Valentine as major influences in the creation of this release. This is Kptmichigan s most personal release to date, containing lyrics throughout, contributions from friends (including Schneider TM) and various field recordings made in and around his house (on "Sunmask," for example, he mic d the waterfall in front of his house). Kptmichigan would fit well in one s musical library somewhere between The Animal Collective, Manitoba and Merzbow.
