Old Tombs, New Tenants

- Default Title
Description
Tomb reuse is a phenomenon that archaeologists frequently encounter in their work at various sites in Egypt and presents them with a number of challenges when it comes to excavating and documenting the subsequent, sometimes numerous phases in the tomb's complex history. This study by Marta Kaczanowicz aims to investigate and contextualise the strategies of tomb reuse in the Egyptian necropolis of Thebes during the Third Intermediate Period and Late Period (from the 21st Dynasty into the Second Persian Period). The discussion of tomb reuse in the context of the topography of the necropolis, its architecture, the idea of sacred space and tomb decoration, the identity of the deceased and their cult (fascicle 1), is followed by a comprehensive catalogue of reused tombs in the Theban necropolis (fascicle 2).
