Through the generosity of local benefactor Madam Bridget Bevan of Derllys Court, the Welsh charity schools and circulating schools, between a third and a half of the population of Wales were taught to read during the 18th century. However, it wasn't until 1872 that there was a permanent school building present in Bancyfelin.
