Harry Frier's Taunton

0 - Default Title
Description
For many the watercolours of Harry Frier epitomise turn-of-the-century Somerset. Working in Taunton from 1883 he recorded - with an almost photographic precision - street scenes, characters, buildings and views. His pictures capture an all but vanished world. They are immensely satisfying works of art, but also important documents of the county's heritage. It has been estimated that during his thirty-eight year long working life in Taunton, Harry Frier painted between two and three thousand works. Frier expert Michael Jones has selected over 125 of the most attractive and important of them for this wide-ranging survey. In it he details Frier's career and life, disappointments and successes and, above all, the joyful simplicity of Harry Frier's art.
