The monograph is devoted to a comprehensive study of exudative catarrhal otitis media, one of the most common pathologies of the middle ear in children and adults. The anatomo-physiologic preconditions of auditory tube dysfunction, key etiologic factors (infections, allergies, barotrauma), mechanisms of exudate accumulation and successive morphologic stages of the disease, including serous, mucous and fibrous phases, are discussed in detail. Clinical symptomatology, peculiarities of course in different age groups are described, differentiation with other forms of otitis media and diseases accompanied by conductive hearing loss is made.Based on the analysis of modern data, diagnostic methods are systematized: otoscopy, micro-otoscopy, tympanometry, audiometry, acoustic reflexometry, endoscopic evaluation of the nasopharynx. Special attention is paid to treatment tactics - medication, physiotherapy, surgery (myringotomy, shunting, adenoidectomy), as well as innovative methods: balloon dilatation of the auditory tube, PRP-therapy, laser technologies. Practical recommendations on hearing rehabilitation and relapse prevention are given.
