Description
This CD album features Saint-Saens 3rd Symphony for organ. This was dedicated to Franz Liszt and was completed in 1886 (the same year that saw him complete his famous work 'The Carnival of the Animals'). The Organ Symphony endures a fine example of high Romanticism, using the principle of thematic metamorphosis (i.e tunes changing and reappearing in various contexts), the composer created a unified structure in which the first note is implicit in the last and vice versa. Following this the album includes two rousing encores from symphonies composed by Charles-Marie Widor. Widor was a French organist who wrote 10 symphonies for organ. This album includes 'Tocatta" from Organ Symphony no.5 (his most famous work) and the Finale from Organ Symphony no. 8. Jane Parker-Smith is an organist of international renown.
