Hibernation

0 - Default Title
Description
The Norwegian musician Terje Isungset is famous for constructing percussion and wind instruments from ice and creating sublime, mystical music from these unusual instruments. 'Hibernation; was recorded in an igloo at Geilo in Norway and it features Sara Marielle Gaup who sings in the native Saami vocal style, joik. Terje Isungset started working with ice in 1999. Previously he had been combining natural elements in his music through the use of wood, stone, metal in their original form, bells, machine sounds, oil rigs etc. The use of ice was always a dream, but seemed unachievable until he was commissioned to compose a piece for the Lillehammer Winter Festival. This work for trum, vocals, percussion and ice was so successful that he was asked to come to the Ice Hotel in Sweden to make more ice music. This led to a new career for Isungset, performing and recording with ice instruments. Personnel: Terje Isungset (ice percussion, ice horn, iceofon, voice), Sara Marielle Gaup (voice), er Paelinck (ice didgeridoo), Eilif Gundersen (ice horn)
