0 - Default Title
Description
A short story written and narrated live by Ian Rankin with musical interludes and songs written and performed by Jackie Leven (plus Michael Cosgrove on keyboards/vocals). Jackie Leven Said was performed for this recording to a full house at Queen's Hall, Edinburgh, on August 14th, 2004. This double-CD set also includes three brand-new studio tracks by Jackie, plus a selection of Ian and Jackie's favorite Jackie recordings culled from many Cooking Vinyl albums. The three new studio tracks, written and performed by Jackie and his musicians, artfully blend experiences from the lives of Ian and Jackie, but also attempt to imagine scenes from the inner world of Ian's universally loved fictional policeman, Detective Inspector John Rebus--most notably in the song "The Haunting of John Rebus." Jackie Leven Said is the story of a record producer in the music business who travels from London, his adopted home, back to his place of birth--Kirkcaldy in the Kingdom of Fife, Scotland, for the funeral of his mother. Healing and resolving of old conflicts with his family (and ex-lover) are the imperatives this man must face--remembered and relevant songs from the records of Jackie Leven help this difficult process. This superb story of Ian's, although essentially somber in tone, also exhibits great humor--both black and laugh-out-loud. At the end of the concert--when the story is concluded, Ian and Jackie indulge in some world-class badinage which has an appreciative audience laughing their heads off.
