Submission in Christianity

Submission in Christianity

0 - Default Title
Description
Submission is an important aspect of Christianity and appears to survive historical fractures in a strange fashion. The book tries to trace its development through the examples of the founder and later martyrs. In the process readers realise that submission is a virtue in its own right, that discernment of the source is essential, and that what happens here and now is vital. A rather cursory survey of the arts indicates submission is not a strong principle there but gender is shown to be a critical feature of submission, especially in several prominent examples. The book emphasises the limitations imposed by ignorance of the world outside Western Europe, and the length of time, two millennia, in which the religion has existed. An attempt is made to consider opposing points of view, and the book concludes with a summary of what little has been learned.
