Ésta es la apasionante historia de cómo, el 29 de mayo de 1953, dos hombres, Tensing y sir Edmund Hillary, animados por una resolución inquebrantable, alcanzaron la cumbre del Everest y regresaron incólumes a reunirse con el resto de la expedición dirigida por sir John Hunt. Casi medio siglo después, otras personas han alcanzado también la cumbre, pero sólo a los miembros de aquella expedición británica les cabe el honor de haber sido los primeros.

Sir John Hunt (India, 1910) se educó en Suiza y a los 15 años se inició en el arriesgado deporte del montañismo. El éxito de su célebre expedición al Everest en 1953 se debió sin duda a sus excelentes dotes de aventurero y organizador y a su abnegado espíritu aventurero.
