Helga Hirsch arbeitet als Filmemacherin, Buchautorin und seit 1985 als freie Journalistin. Nach ihrem Studium der Germanistik und Politologie an der FU Berlin promovierte Helga Hirsch (Jg. 1948) über die polnische Opposition der Jahre 1976 bis 1980. Von 1988 bis 1994 war sie Korrespondentin der ZEIT in Warschau.2001 wurde sie mit dem Deutsch-Polnischen Journalistenpreis ausgezeichnet; 2005 erhielt sie den Latücht-Preis für ihren Dokumentarfilm 'Coffee Beans For a Life'. Sie veröffentlichte zahlreiche Bücher und Filme zu deutsch-polnischen Themen.
