In his preparation for college Hauff did not distin guish himself as a student, but from his early boyhood he displayed much talent as a story-teller. He studied theology at the University Of Tiibingen; instead Of taking orders in the church, however, he entered a nobleman's family as tutor. There for the entertain ment Of his pupils he wrote the Tales, Of which The Caravan is a part. These stories always have delighted young and Old.
