James has matured into an eclectic, genre defying singer/songwriter. This "eclecticism" springs from his diverse musical influences and experience - having played saxophone in various jazz outfits and sung and played the guitar in several garage rock bands, later also playing in two American country blues bands. Playing most often solo with just guitar as accompaniment to his voice, it seems James is able to draw from all the styles of music he has played (jazz, folk, rock, blues, country), giving an interesting sound that sits well with his imaginative lyrics.
