Das besondere Augenmerk des Buches liegt auf den leiblichen und sinnlichen Aspekten jeglichen Verstehens. Es entwickelt in Grundzügen eine theologische Hermeneutik des Körpers ab, die nicht allein schöpfungstheologisch, sondern im Letzten christologisch, nämlich inkarnationstheologisch fundiert ist.
[Understanding God. Tasks and Limits of Theological Hermeneutics] Theological hermeneutics is more than just a methodology for the different theological disciplines. Its true challenge, not to say its provocation, lies in the assumption that the understanding of faith is not merely a facet of human self-understanding but, in a precise sense, also an understanding of God. The presupposition is the possibility that God can be understood at all by us humans and is not merely a marker for an unspeakable mystery or a placeholder in a theory of metaphysical ultimate foundation. The specific emphasis of this book lies in the bodily and sensory aspects of all understanding. It outlines the basic traits of a theological hermeneutics of the body, which grounds not only in the theology of creation but ultimately in christology, that is, it is rooted in the theology of the incarnation.
