This 1991 recording of a polished but unslick city band on the order of Marrabenta combines local rhythms with touches of soukous in the horns, a notably eastern African sound in the guitars and an indefinably Portuguese/Brazilian undertow. The really extremely individual and attractive result is enriched by the solo sax playing of Jose "Seca" Alage, who was murdered by street thugs in 1993. by John Storm Roberts All Music
