Description
Over a career that spanned more than a quarter century, Schlager superstar Freddy Quinn racked up six #1 singles. Altogether, he had 46 hits on the West German charts, 26 of those ranking in the top ten. Quinn sold upward of 60 million records at last count and became the first millionaire German recording artist. His premier 1956 hit recording of "Heimweh (Dort, wo die Blumen blüh'n)" shot to #1 and remained on the German charts for 52 full weeks. With his chiseled good looks, during the 60's, Quinn also became a regular presence in German mos and on stage, usually playing roles related to his trademark wandering seaman persona. His commercial rise was swift, as he was selected to represent Germany in the 1956 Euroion Song Contest, where he placed 3rd with a torch song called, "So Geht Das Jede Nacht". That same year, Freddy Quinn began recording Schlager songs with themes of wandering and yearning for home, which frequently contained a seafaring motif. Freddy Quinn's classics remain a mainstay of Schlager music radio and still rate prominently on Schlager station playlists.
