((Please scroll down for English version)) Mit seiner Teilnahme an der documenta 14 wurde Ulrich Wüst 2017 auch international als wichtiger dokumentarisch-künstlerischer Fotograf Deutschlands bekannt. Seit den 70er Jahren dokumentiert er den Zustand und die Entwicklung ostdeutscher Städte. Mit seinen Schwarzweiß-Bildern, die wunderbar präzise das fragile Gleichgewicht zwischen vermeintlicher Objektivität und subjektiver Ironie halten, kommentierte er die Veränderung der Städte und den Verlust der gesellschaftlichen Vision zu DDR Zeiten. Die 'Stadtbilder' die Ulrich Wüst von 1979 bis 1985 fotografierte, gelten als die wichtigste Werkgruppe seiner DDR Jahre. Sie werden mit diesem Buch nun erstmals umfassend abgebildet und kommentiert werden. Die ca. 80 Abbildungen beinhalten die kompletten fünfzig Bilder des edierten 'Stadt-bilder' Portfolios sowie neue weitere Bilder, die erst kürzlich von Ulrich Wüst erstmals abgezogen wurden. Ulrich Wüst (*1949) studierte an der Hoch-schule für Architektur und Bauwesen in Wei-mar. Bis 1977 arbeitete er als Stadtplaner, danach als Bildredakteur und ab 1983 als freischaffender Fotograf. Mitte der 1980er gehörte er zu den wichtigsten Fotografen in der DDR. Er lebt und arbeitet in Berlin und Mecklenburg. Ulrich Wüst became known to an international audience as an important documentary art photographer when he participated in documenta 14 in 2017. He has been documenting the status and development of East German cities since the 1970s. His black-and-white photographs strike a careful balance between presumed objectivity and subtle irony, and they comment on the transformation of cities and the lack of a societal vision in the GDR. "Stadtbilder", photographed by Wüst from 1979 to 1985, is considered his most important body of work from that period. For the first time, they are now being presented in a comprehensible fashion with added commentary in this book. The approximately 80 plates include the full set of 50 photographs from "Stadtbilder" plus a number of additional pictures that Wüst only recently printed from original negatives.Ulrich Wüst (*1949) studied at the university for architecture and civil engineering in Weimar. Up until 1977, he first worked as a city planner and then as a picture editor. Since 1983, he has been working as a freelance photographer. In the middle of the 1980s, he was considered to be one of the most important photographers in the GDR. He lives and works in Berlin and Mecklenburg.
