Through his crystallized figures in iridescent monochromes, the painter Xie Lei brings to the surface historical archetypes and persistent images. Slow motion, tight shots and elliptical narratives give a cinematographic twist to this hauntological painting, « which reflects the spectral aspect of desire by projecting the iconography of the ghost on to that of fantasy. »
